Hors d' oeuvres

So, BGU now offers mini hors d' oeuvres?  Yes!  I have been cooking and baking for 33+ years, but somehow my baked goods have always stood out in people's minds.  After many years of baking professionally, a client requested that not only did she want me to provide desserts, but she also wanted me to make hors d'oeuvres for her event.  Of course, my answer was, "Sure, no problem."  I felt equipped and confident in not only the sweet department, but also the savory side of things.  You see, I have been cooking and creating my own recipes for many years. One of my biggest joys is seeing my family and friends enjoying my home cooked meals.  I know that their taste buds detect the "love" that was put into every detail and element of the dish.  I was humbled to be asked to provide a variety of savory items.

The savory menu included:  Ecuadorian Shrimp Cocktail, Sausage Tapenade on Garlic Crostini, Mini Meatball Sandwich Bites, Spinach & Artichoke Dip, Ham & Bacon Quiches, Chinese Chicken Salad, Crackers w/ Goat Cheese & Port Fig Sauce, and Mediterranean Quinoa Salad.

The sweet menu included: Coconut Cream Pies, Red Velvet Cake Pops, Lemon & Blackberry Tarts, Raspberry Cheesecakes, Caramel Apple Tarts, and Turtle Brownies.

After, many hours of work, I can thankfully say that the event was a hit.  I got through this event with the help and assistance of my husband and daughters.  We are working on the hors d'oeuvres menu with items and pricing.  I'm hoping to have this information up soon : )

Thanks again for your support.  Now, off for more planning for my son's wedding in less than 3 weeks....so excited!

Valentine's Cookies & More

I have joined Pinterest and will be updating not only my webpage, but Facebook and Pinterest when I have new products out.  This last week, I have been baking quite a bit and have enjoyed it thoroughly!  Valentine's Day is but a few days away and hearts are one of my favorite shapes to decorate.  One of the themes for Valentine's cookies was light pink, black, and gold; I decided to include "Henna" inspired piping on some of the cookies because I'm fascinated with the intricate designs.  The other theme for my Valentine's cookies was using light blue and light pink; delicate and elegant, these cookies have been finished with brush embroidery and detailed piping.  I was also inspired to make cookie picture frames and a hanging heart wreath.  I hope you all enjoy the photos and please follow me on Facebook and Pinterest.  Have a sweet day!

Push Up Cakes & Desserts

I'm super excited to introduce Push Up Cakes & Desserts!  Remember, the ice cream push up pops?  The ones with the Flintstones on the cardboard container? These new and modern push ups are made of a clear, unbreakable plastic that can hold any dessert...layers of cake and frosting, fruits, sauces, sprinkles, pastry cream, and ice cream.  The possibilities are endless! Push Up Desserts are a wonderful way to impress your guests and get that "Wow Factor" at your next event.  No need to serve or dirty serving utensils with this dessert...guests simply pick up a dessert, remove the clear top, push the dessert up and enjoy.  Also, clean up is a snap....simply dispose of the empty container when finished.  Push up cakes are $3.50 each and push up desserts are $3.95. There is a 1 dozen minimum per flavor.  Contact us and we can make up your favorite flavor for your special event.

About the Sea Glass...

So a friend contacted me to place an order for something sweet to celebrate her husband's 50th birthday.  So, I asked her. "Is there a theme or what does he like?"  She responded, "We love the beach and the colors of sea glass."  I told her I would figure something out to decorate her cupcakes. With complete confidence in me & my work (I was humbled), she ordered gluten-free carrot cupcakes and chocolate cupcakes.  In thinking about her order, I decided that I had to not only use the colors of sea glass, but actually make sugar sea glass to adorn her delicious cupcakes.  I made the sea glass in a shade of olive green and aqua/turquoise blue.  As I started to cut and mold the hot sugar, I began to see what looked like real sea glass. To be completely honest, I was quite pleased with the end product and seeing my friend's excited reaction as she glanced at her cupcakes, was priceless!

Kudos to my husband!

The Cars 2 Cake (photo below) turned out super cute! The birthday boy was smiling from ear to ear when he saw his special cake with his favorite characters: Lightning McQueen, Shu Todoroki, and last but not least....Mater. My husband did an amazing job hand sculpting the cars in edible sugar. Thanks honey for your help! You are a gifted artist.

This upcoming Monday 8/29, I will be making a small baseball themed cake for a sweet boy visiting from Japan. This is his first time coming to the United States and I'm honored to have been asked to make his cake. I will post a photo Monday night.

My site's first day

It's been a while since I purchased my domain name and I finally have a website set up!  It's still under construction but the main meat and potatoes of the site is up.  Just a little bit of tweaking and a lot of picture uploading and it should start to come together very nicely.  I'll be updating much on the website during this week, so don't be surprised if you discover changes.  Have fun browsing my site!
